This project aims to break the cycle of excessive mandates and constitutional change in Africa. Its targets are the African people, the media, civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, governments, and sub-regional and international institutions.

AfricTivistes is based on the premise that constitutional change has been the cause of much political conflict in Africa in recent decades. Some presidents tend to fiddle with the constitutions of their countries in order to run for one more term after resetting the counters to zero. This is a serious violation and disrespect of the fundamental charters that are tailor-made to keep them in power.

The “Presidency on a fixed-term contract” project is thus based on several axes:

the establishment of a framework for strategic thinking with African civil society organisations;

a monitoring and documentation of the constitutional changes related to the limitation and duration of presidential mandates;

the development of an online data processing and display information system on political situations related to non-compliance with the Constitution;

an online advocacy campaign on respect for term limits.
