Africa Media CyberSecurity (AMC) is a series of theoretical and practical trainings conducted in several countries and launched in 2017. AMC includes a sub-programme, AfricTivistes Femmes Cybersécurité, which targets female journalists, media practitioners and human rights defenders in Africa.
AfricTivistes Femmes Cybersécurité was implemented for the first time in 2018 in Burkina Faso with the training of 35 women journalists and human rights defenders.
AfricTivistes Femmes Cybersécurité is being implemented in 2023 in collaboration with Internews. It includes two cybersecurity trainings (Level 1 and Level 2 guidelines, use and tools) for 18 participants from Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo; the implementation of cybersecurity-related projects by the trainees and the deployment of a major advocacy and awareness-raising campaign on digital security and against online harassment of girls and women in Senegal.
As a reminder, Anna Gueye was a founding member of AfricTivistes whose commitment to Africa as a whole and its diaspora is an inspiration to many. She passed away just a few days after we successfully finalise the Africa Media Cybersecurity programme. By 2023, AMC has equipped nearly 700 men and women.
