AfricTivistes launches CitizenLab in Mauritania

AfricTivistes CitizenLab is a programme to accelerate the participatory engagement of young people in the consolidation of democracy. It is a hub for innovation and production of valuable content based on digital democracy projects. 

An innovative citizen’s hub will soon be set up in Mauritania. Its aim is to support, accompany and equip Mauritanian civil society actors through training, tool development and support for innovation and co-creation.

AfricTivistes CITIZENLab is a citizen innovation lab that aims to strengthen the capacities of young Mauritanian civil society actors in terms of citizen participation. It provides Mauritanian civil society with media tools as well as valuable content on enhanced citizenship. More specifically, it aims to 

  • – Strengthen the capacities of young Mauritanian civil society actors;
  • – Give a new impetus to citizen participation;
  • – Create a network of stakeholders committed to identifying, studying, reflecting on and offering solutions to relevant societal issues through the production of content, the development of tools and innovative solutions.

It is a digital innovation hub where the three core elements that make up its driving force converge: Stakeholders, Ideas and Technologies. It is part of a cross-disciplinary approach that brings together reflection, the development of civic tech tools, the creation of a community, a collaborative workspace, etc. 

The project is implemented with the involvement and participation of the network of AfricTivistes of Mauritania, media actors from civil society and media professionals, based on a policy of access to information and on the principles of good governance.

AfricTivistes will recruit a team of seventeen (17) people who will be based in Nouakchott for a period of twelve (12) months for the effective implementation of the CitizenLab Mauritania project. Different qualifications are sought to fill these positions: journalist (professional or citizen), blogger, computer scientist, videographer, specialist in multimedia content management, community manager, PhD candidates, etc.
