AfricTivistes launches CitizenLab Mauritania project on February 20, 2023 in Nouakchott under the theme: “Make digital work for citizen engagement and participation in Mauritania.”

AfricTivistes CitizenLab Mauritania is a citizen fab aimed at supporting, mentoring and providing tools to Mauritanian civil society actors through training, tech tool development, and support for innovation and co-creation.

This innovation project aims to accelerate the participatory engagement of youth for the consolidation of democracy in Mauritania. CitizenLab Mauritania will be a hub for citizen innovation and a space for the production of valuable content on digital projects dedicated to democracy.

More specifically, it aims to strengthen the capacities of young civil society actors, foster a new momentum of citizen participation, and create a network of actors committed to identify, study, reflect and offer solutions to socio-political issues in Mauritania through the production of content, the development of tools and innovative solutions.

The launch will bring together State authorities and a significant section of the country such as academics, media actors and civil society organisations, citizen movements, activists, diplomatic corps, …

During the seminar, the speakers will address through panels various topics related:

• – Digital democracy and the role of the media 
• – The contribution of digital in citizenship in Africa 
• – The challenges of citizen engagement in Africa.

This project is implemented with the involvement and participation of the network of AfricTivistes of Mauritania, media actors of civil society and media professionals.

This event is an opportunity to call on authorities to facilitate access to information and public data. It is also a space to encourage media partners to capitalise the information that will be published during this project. Lastly, it will be a forum to encourage civil society organisations to take ownership of this citizen innovation lab.
